What is Aerial Platform Training

  • Aerial Platform Training is a unique opportunity for sportsmen to learn the dynamics of shooting from a helicopter. As you are flown by an experienced pilot, Jason Abraham, shooters will attempt to complete a course of designated targets. This course will challenge your skills and increase your technical abilities both on the ground and in the air. Aerial Platform Training is not commonly offered to anyone outside of SWAT or Special Forces.

What is the course like?

  • The Rotor Recoil course includes 90 custom made targets, scattered over 11,000 acres on privately owned Mendota Ranch in Canadian, Texas. With changing terrain and variable conditions, our 90 target course provides consistent target opportunities and a fast paced course.

What are the requirements to participate?

  • To shoot the Rotor Recoil course, guests must meet the following criteria: no felony convictions, or have any restriction that prohibits you from possessing a firearm. Guests must be at least 16 years of age, and must sign a release form with Rotor Recoil. Must not exceed aircraft seat weight limitation of 300 pounds.

Do I need to be an expert marksman?

  • The Rotor Recoil course is able to accommodate novice-intermediate shooters, but basic firearm knowledge and experience is preferred.

Can I use my own gun?

  • Guests will be provided with custom LaRue rifles equipped with Nightforce Scopes, as well as unlimited Military Grade .556 ammunition. Clients are not permitted to use their own firearms while participating in any Rotor Recoil activities. Use of client-owned firearms are prohibited while on Mendota Ranch premises.

Do I have to attend a safety program before I go on an expedition?

  • Our mandatory safety program is included with your expedition at no additional cost. The safety course is mandatory for all participants, and all shooters will be briefed before the flight. We will go over all of the key safety topics and procedures that will be performed during the flight. The safety course is usually 30 minutes, with additional time allotted to ask questions and get comfortable with the upcoming activities.

How many people can shoot at a time?

  • Rotor Recoil is able to accommodate two shooters at one time. Both shooters will shoot out of the left side of the aircraft.

Will we shoot any live targets?

  • At this time, Rotor Recoil does not offer the opportunity to shoot any live targets.

What type of aircraft will we be flying in?

  • The course exclusively uses a Robinson R44 Helicopter owned and operated by Abraham Equine. This aircraft is agile, nimble, and highly effective for this operation. The aircraft is a 2019 R44 Raven II and airworthy operated/certified.


What if bad weather occurs?

  • The forecast will be reviewed 1-2 days before each scheduled flight. If a poor forecast is predicted, the course will be rescheduled to the nearest available date that aligns with the client’s availability. If we are unable to accommodate the client via rescheduling, a full refund will be issued.

Canadian is a year-round destination for arts, cultural and outdoor activity. Canadian has many restaurants, museums, entertainment and seasonal community events.

How do I get to Rotor Recoil?

  • The Rotor Recoil Course training is provided, on the privately owned Mendota Ranch, 15 miles from Canadian, Texas. The ranch is located 1.5 hours from the Amarillo, TX airport, and 3 hours from the Oklahoma City, OK airport.
